Photos of My Garden

I started my garden from a blank slate of St. Augustine grass three years ago. It has changed over time and keeps changing throughout the seasons. I took out a lot of grass and constructed large beds for native and adapted plants. With the current drought situation, I am glad I went that route to increase my chance for success. Even through the drought my garden has survived and has bounced back with new vigor with the cooler temperatures and the little bit of rain that we have received.

I love the combination of rocks and plants. So, with rocks readily available, I decided to incorporate a rock garden with a few annuals and perennials. I liked the idea of buying a variety
of individual plants to be displayed.

We put in crushed granite pathways with flagstone stepping stones. Little by little I have created a natural , wildlife habitat in our backyard.

Planting native and adapted plants just made sense to me.

If you stroll through my garden you will see a variety of plants for color and texture. I haven't met too many plants that I didn't like.

So, of course I have tried plants that I truly love...like hostas. Guess what? It didn't survive. The photo above was taken during the spring when the weather was still cool. Since then, I have substituted the dead hosta with ginger, which is currently doing great in my rock garden.

Native and adapted plants just belong here. They are more disease resistant and require less water. With our water restrictions it is even more important to have plants that once established require less water.

I do like the use of annual in my garden for color and to fill in spots with interest.

Wildlife is important to me. I love watching the variety of birds taking a drink and at the bird feeders. Also,  I have incorporated a lot of plants that attract butterflies and hummingbirds to my garden and they are a joy to watch.

Thank you, for visiting my garden.
