Lately, we have been receiving quite a bit of rain and I haven't been keeping up with what is going on outside. However, a couple of days ago I did get a chance to journey outside and noticed a perennial that stood out among everything else.

Globe Mallow Sphaeralcea ambigua |
Globe mallow was and is currently blooming like crazy!
As you can see, it attracts bees and this little one looks nice and cozy all curled up inside the bloom. It also attracts butterflies and the seeds are eaten by birds and small mammals. It loves the sun and performed wonderfully this past summer with our severe drought. It is a definite favorite among my Austin blogger friends.
The silver foliage brightens up a garden and adds such variety to a green garden. I have mine planted behind trailing rosemary.
This time of year, there are very few blooms in my garden. I know these blooms won't last long, so I need to enjoy them while they are still around.
Have a wonderful weekend!

There's no place like Austin, Texas! In this gardening blog, I have tried to focus mainly on native and adapted plants for Central Texas! I think it is the true secret to a successful garden in this great state!

I love everything about it ... the colour of the flowers and that brilliant silver foliage. It's a lovely thing.
Love your Globe Mallow. The blooms just pop against the silver foliage. Yes, it is hard to remind yourself to slow down and ENJOY the holiday season.
Good idea - enjoy those Globemallow blooms while you can! Looks great. Looks like an Austin trip would cure my winter blues, this year!
It's beautiful with that rosemary! I've never seen that here. My garden is asleep so I'll have to just enjoy your blooms instead. :o)
Wow, I think I'm going to have to get one of these for my garden. I love the color combination of the bright orange against the silvery, gray foliage. I'll definitely look for this one in the nurseries. Thanks for sharing.
OK...another plant for the list. I like the foliage and the bloom.
This rain has been wonderful, hasn't it?
Stay warm...
What a happy plant. I love globe mallow. I need to put it on my wish list for next year's plants.
How pretty Amy with that silver foliage and those orange blooms.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Dear Amy,
here in deep winter it is so nice to read your post and look at that beautiful Globe Mallow (which I didn't know till now). So bright blossoms and lovely silver foliage, thank you for showing it to us!
Yep, this plant is a winner in my garden as well.
I simply must find a spot for the globe mallow. I had one but it succumbed to too much shade. But your beauty has me on the hunt to find it a home here!
